Cold Air Intake causing mass air flow sensor issues So a couple of months ago I put in a cold air intake on my 09 Impreza. And it immediately caused my check engine lights to come on which after hooking it up to a code reader I found that it’s saying my mass air flow sensor is bad.
After my CEL came on with a P0171 code I posted another post on Car Talk asking you folks what course of action to take, and I was told to replace the K&N style filter with a regular air filter and clean the mass air flow sensor and see if that helps. Well I replaced the air filter and upon pulling my old filter off it was OBVIOUS to me, and anyone else, that that filter had WAY more than 7k ...
The air is then mixed with the fuel, and combustion is the result. This is what propels the car. There is a sensor on the air intake called the mass air flow sensor. This sensor calculates how much air to mix with the fuel. If you are using a cold air intake, the MAF sensor might not be calculating properly. This means you are not getting the ...
The mass air flow sensor increases the voltage to maintain the temperature of the sensor. The change in voltage is recognized by the computer as a change in airflow. This lets the computer know there is more air entering the engine, and so more fuel must be added to maintain the proper air to fuel ratio (AFR). MAFs take multiple readings per second to ensure accuracy. Corrections and ...

2018-12-05· Not tightening the battery’s terminal connections after installing an intake: Every time the battery’s cables make adequate contact with the terminals, damaging voltage spikes can be created, potentially frying your mass air flow sensor Driving through puddles or torrential downpours with a low-slung cold air intake installed and not using a hydroshield on its filter
2016-07-25· Your vehicle’s mass air flow sensor (also called “MAF”) works by heating up a thin wire to check the volume of air entering the engine. On the other side, your vehicle’s computer calculates the electrical resistance by seeing how long it takes for the passing air to cool down that same wire.

2018-12-28· Mass Air Flow Meter . To properly gauge how much fuel to inject at any given moment, the engine control module (ECM) needs to know how much air is coming into the air intake system. Most vehicles use a mass air flow meter (MAF) for this purpose, while others use a manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor, usually located on the intake manifold ...

There is a sensor on the air intake called the mass air flow sensor. This sensor calculates how much air to mix with the fuel. If you are using a cold air intake, the MAF sensor might not be calculating properly. This means you are not getting the added gas mileage that most cold air intakes advertise.
2017-04-21· The mass air flow sensor itself impedes air flow slightly; Creates a slight time lag because of the small added distance the air has to travel to go through the mass air flow sensor. The common types of mass air flow sensors are: Moving Vane Meter, Hot Wire MAF Sensor, Cold Wire MAF Sensor. A mass air flow sensor usually costs $180-$284. Parts are usually sold individually. Brands offer different variants when it comes to design and packaging. Make sure to choose one that is the right fit for your vehicle type. A faulty mass air flow sensor decreases fuel efficiency. Have ...

2016-09-30· The stock mass airflow sensor is designed for stock tuning (air and fuel flow) and will not automatically re-calibrate for additional air flow. Upgraded intakes can lose power with newer cars because most use MAF-based fueling. With a change of pipe size, the fueling is affected, and the factory ECU is calibrated to the stock size.

2020-09-27· The Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor measures the amount of air entering the engine and signals this information to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The PCM uses this information, along with information from other sensors, to control fuel injector on-time and achieve the correct air/fuel mixture. MAF sensors contain a hot wire or hot film positioned in the intake air stream. As the air …

2007-05-06· The mass air flow sensor (MAF) is generally regarded as an air meter and while this is accurate it is also a rudimentary description of it’s duties. MAF sensors measure air mass and temperature, they do not measure air speed or volume. Schools of thought on MAF placement, especially with forced induction vehicles, varies from tuner to tuner.
